UW HEALTH: IMPACT ANALYSIS FOR LEADERS

Leaders across the UW Health hospital system were struggling to meet the burden of proof for financial decision-making. Senior leadership asked me to create an online course that breaks down the basics of impact analysis as it pertains to creating a business case. This course improved business case presentations and saved the organization time and money.

COMPONENTS

Certifications require three main components - an eLearning course with built-in assessment, hands-on in-person training, and a practical assessment with standardized scoring rubric.

The Problem

Leaders at UW Health were struggling to create business cases with sufficient evidence to support their request for funding. This left senior leaders to sit through long business case presentations before those presentations could provide complete information, wasting time and potentially impacting the bottom line.

The Solution

I worked with experts from the finance team and members of leadership to develop an online course on impact analysis best practices and how to incorporate them into a business case. The course also acts as a tool to help build the business case as the learner completes the course.

Results & Takeaways

After launching Impact Analysis for Leaders, members of the executive leadership team noted significant quality improvements across business case presentations. Feedback from leaders creating business cases indicated feeling more confident in their presentations, as well as their own ability to judge the quality of their analyses.
